This is an ideal location for a large extended family to use. We were 5 couples and 2 children ranging from couples in their late 60's, to couples in their 30's and to a family with children 6 and 8. There was something for everybody. The pool was large and delightful and used by all. Each evening we ate dinner outside at either of two large tables either under a veranda or under the stars. We used the outdoor kitchen for all meals and it was excellently equipped. The outdoor grills were a grill persons delight. They had extra fridges close by the outdoor kitchen. The rooms were a nice size and the bathrooms had space and showers with decent water pressure. We drank the local water, which was excellent, and the kitchen had a well used automatic ice-maker. The clothes washer and dryer were used often, but we found hanging the clothes to dry outside on the line with the fragrances of the flowers and herbs was much nicer. The views from the villa were wonderful and many of us swam in the lake and most of us used the sauna and hot tub from time to time. We also just enjoyed lying on one of the outdoor beds and reading a book with the breeze coming though the trees. There was delightful patio area for after dinner cocktails and conversation. The owners were very helpful and they had a local man who acted as a maintenance person and as a concierge. One thing to keep in mind: it is a big help if one of your party speaks French. It made getting advice on trips to wineries and restaurants and olive farms more helpful. They helped us arrange vineyard and olive farm visits. The location is great. We were a one hour drive from Bastia and Cap Corse, 1/2 hour from Aleria, 1 hour from Corte and the mountains and hiking, and 1 hour from Porto Vecchio, and only 5 minutes from a very nice beach. There was excellent food shopping only 5 minutes away. There were many good restaurants also close by but we primarily ate at the villa. It is interesting to get to, just 3 minutes off a major road (the D10) but the last 100 yards are on a dirt road. Don't let the dirt road deter you. Also, as the villa is in nature, do not let the flies and ants and little lizards and frogs deter you either. Our flyswatter was expertly handled by the 6 year old. Mosquitoes were there but very few. In other words, if you want an antiseptic hotel experience this is not the place for you, but if you want to experience the stunning loveliness of staying in a European country villa, this is the place. The smell of all the wildflowers and herbs growing all around was something we will never forget. We were outdoors almost all the time. We had 4 rental cars and there was plenty of room for parking and the place was very secure. Did i mention the local wine is excellent?
We spend a week last august in this property and definitely took advantage of the wildness and quietness it offers. There are plenty of activities to enjoy at Casa di L'Onda and also close by!
